Fans of Matt Reeves’ Batman universe, especially those who loved Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of Batman, probably noticed The Penguin series. Now that the show has ended, many are curious about what’s next for Oswald Cobblepot.
However, Colin Farrell has confirmed he’ll be back as the Penguin in The Batman Part 2, and he’s set to appear in future Batman movies too.
In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Colin Farrell shared that his character, Oswald Cobblepot, also known as The Penguin, will appear in about five or six scenes in The Batman Part 2. He talked about how deeply developed his character is and praised Matt Reeves for his creative vision. Colin also admitted he feels a little nervous about what’s next for The Penguin and where his story will go.
“Matt Reeves is an amazing writer and filmmaker. In the second movie, I’m both excited and a bit nervous—not about what Oz does or the trouble he gets into or his moments of success. By the end of the eight episodes, his character changes into something very different. In the last scene, he even shows signs of intense, almost delusional behavior. I’m curious how they’ll continue that in the next film. I’ve been told I’ll have about five or six scenes.”
With this news, it’s clear that Colin Farrell isn’t finished playing the Penguin in Matt Reeves’ dark and thrilling world. And as fans, we’re definitely excited to see what’s next!
In the same conversation, Colin Farrell revealed that he’s signed on to play the Penguin in three Batman movies, which matches the number of movies planned for Matt Reeves’ Batman universe. This means the Penguin will be part of the story all the way until it wraps up, starting from the first movie in 2022. He said in his statement –
“I signed on for three Batman movies, but I wasn’t sure if I’d be in the second one. Matt Reeves is an amazing writer and filmmaker. For the second film, I’m both excited and a little nervous—not about what Oz does, the trouble he faces, or the successes he has, but about his voice and personality. What will he be like?”
So, it’s safe to say that The Penguin series’s surprising and exciting ending isn’t the last we’ll see of the character. There’s still plenty more to unfold in Gotham from his perspective, and we’re all here for it!
